PSG VS ATLETICO MADRID POST MATCH REACTION : FIFA CWC

PARIS SAINT GERMAIN 4: 0ATLETICO MADRID

FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP GROUP STAGE

Paris Saint Germain vs Atletico Madrid just ended with a scoreline of 4-0 in the favour of PSG in the first edition of the new format of the FIFA Club World Cup.

It was quite a dominant display from the Champions League winners over Atletico.

Fabian Ruiz, Senny Mayulu, Kang In Lee and Vitinha were the goalscorers of Paris Saint Germain.

Lets talk about the game and the tournament now a little bit.

So there has been a lot of negative talk coming into this tournament for several reasons, however the most important reason in my opinion is the health of players and the number of games they are playing, I know you already might have heard and read about this topic a lot of times previously, but still I wanted to make this point beacuse you can't have the players play these many games at the top level at that intensity, they are human beings after all, it is insane amount of pressure on the bodies of the players.

Now coming to the game,

First of all, it looked like a very hot day out there in Los Angeles, it must be very hard for the players to cope with the sun.

The game in itself in my opinion was bad in terms of quality, I mean PSG were just far-far better than Atletico Madrid, by the end of the match it looked as if Atletico players didn't even want to play, PSG players were just passing the ball around comfortably just waiting for the final whistle, not going to lie, even I wanted the match to end.

Before the match I expected PSG to win but did not expect such a bad game, it was just Psg everywhere.

The way they operate and move the ball around is just sensational, all their players are super comfortable and extremely flexible and versatile, all of them properly suit the playing style of Luis Enrique.

At one point you could see their Right Back Achraf Hakimi literally on the left wing supporting  kvaratskhelia, the way they switch positions makes it just too hard for the opponent to mark PSG's  players and defend against them. One more thing is that their players' are ridiculously hard working, like just look at how thier wing backs and wingers track back and then go forward they are jusrt constantly running and pressing.

If we talk about Atletico Madrid, they were honestly quite bad.

On some occasions they broke on the counter but most of the times they were either not lethal or they just could not find the final ball, they were just below par in terms of quality.  Alexander Sorloth did miss a clear tap in, you just have to score from that distance , that is a terrible miss.

Paris Saint Germain enjoyed fantastic ball possession- 74% for them and 26% for Atletico Madrid.

They also had outperformed their Xg(Expected Goals), they scored 4 but created Xg of 2.21, Atletico on the other hand created an Xg of 0.89. PSG had 11 shots on target(out of 16) and had 4 big chances.

Atletico just had 1 shot on target(out of 5 total shots) and 1 big chance, they clearly lacked attacking firepower against a team that is very disciplined.

I will not end this without talking about the referring which was absolutely pathetic to be honest.

In a tournament which already has such negativity around it, you really so not want such poor officiating, also some of those clear cut decisions took too long.

Apart from all the negativity around this tournament, I really think the knockouts can be an interesting affair, especially if we see an underdog team.

Why Defending the Champions League Title Is So Rare: A Look at the Past 20 Seasons

INTRODUCTION We all know that the UEFA Champions League is the greatest club competition of all time, and it is the hardest to win as well. We hv the Champions league final coming up in a few days: PSG VS INTER. These are relatively new teams(of course Inter is playing 2nd final in 3 years but still).  But I had a question hwo often does it happen that the winner retains the title and does that club perform on a similar level. Well we all know that Real Madrid have won three titles in a row in the seasons 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18. We are going to look at the last 20 Champions league winners and see how teams fared next season. In the last 20 Champions League campaigns, Real Madrid have been the most successful club winning it on 6 occasions and the ONLY team to defend the title in the last 20 UCL campaigns when they did a 3 peat as mentioned earlier. In fact they are the ONLY club in the Champions League era(when it was renamed to Champions league from European Cup) to e...

Hidden Gems of 2025:Most underrated and overlooked players this season

INTRODUCTION- In a campaign packed with breathtaking goals, record-breaking statistics, and super-stardom controversy, it's easy to forget the unsung heroes—the players who don't grab the headlines but are indispensable every time they put on their boots. While the limelight remains glued to the typical superstars, there's a whole cast of footballers who've been putting in performances that deserve great accolades, yet go under the radar. These are the guys who don't always go viral on social media but without whom their team would be half as good. They make the hard tackles, set the pace, make intelligent passes, and open up space for the stars to sparkle. They might not chalk up crazy goal counts, but they add balance, brains, and grit to every game. Be it a full-back shutting down world-class wingers week in and week out, a midfielder who quietly dominates the match, or a striker who labors tirelessly off the ball—these underappreciated players are the pillars ...
